A New Podcast

When I was hospitalized and diagnosed with bipolar disorder, I was scared my life was ruined.  My mother, a successful dermatologist, told me that she had it too and so did my grandfather who was very successful in business.  She told me that in our family no matter how bad things got, “when you’re back, you’ll be better than ever.”

From the very beginning, I knew I was part of a family that succeeded with mental illness.  My mom also told me we had to buy the medication without using insurance so that no one would know about our conditions, and that if I told my friends about it I would lose them all.

Looking back, I learned a lot from my family’s history.  In many ways, we represent a “bipolar dynasty” of people who succeed amidst mental health problems while keeping it secret.

When I decided to be open with my condition to help others, I kept my family history a secret for twenty years.  This podcast is about coming out of that secrecy to share lessons of family empowerment that previously have been so hidden.

Each episode will explore themes related to succeeding despite the stigma and challenges of mental illness, including guests from my family and others.

Every episode also includes a tool or resource or exercise to help listeners address that theme in their lives (and a form if you’d like to share feedback about how it went).
